Dr. Jess Anderson
Dr. Jess Anderson is a native of West Virginia and graduated from WVU with a Bachelors in Animal Sciences. She received her doctorate from The University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine in 2012. After spending a year working in Florida, she moved home to Morgantown and spent the next 10 years in general practice. Her clinical interests include preventative medicine, dermatology, and hospice care. She enjoys forming new relationships with clients and their pets, and loves watching them grow. She has training in acupuncture and is excited to bring that to the clinic’s rehabilitation services. Dr. Anderson lives in Cheat Lake, WV with her husband, Ryan, and their two kids, Madison and James. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with family and friends, boating, and reading.
Dr. Stassa Ferikes
Dr. Stassa Ferikes was raised in Asheville, NC. She attended Appalachian State University where she graduated with an undergraduate degree in Biology. She received her veterinary degree from Tuskegee University in 2008. She then began working in general practice, followed by over 10 years as an emergency veterinarian. Dr. Ferikes has recently moved to Pennsylvania with her family and is looking forward to returning to general practice. Her clinical interests include preventative medicine, wound management, pain management, and end-of-life care. Her favorite part of veterinary medicine is being able to foster the human-animal bond, which takes on many forms. She also loves that no two days are ever the same, and that it’s always something new, different, and challenging! When not at work, Dr. Ferikes enjoys spending time with her family, spending time outdoors, traveling, and trying new places to eat.
Meet Our Dedicated Team
Maggie Burnworth
Maggie has been with Woodlands Animal Care Center since December 2010. She first started working in veterinary medicine while in high school as a veterinary assistant at a local veterinary clinic. After earning her MedicalAssistance degree and becoming a registered EEG technician, she returned to the animal medicine field that she loved. Maggie enjoys spending time with her family, her husband Matthew and two children. She also loves reading, being outdoors, and playing with their dogs, Bane and Gaia.
Caitlin Nichols
Caitlin graduated from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown with a Social Science degree in 2004. She has been working in the veterinary field since 2006 with a two-year hiatus to work as an addiction counselor. In 2012, Caitlin joined Woodlands Animal Care Center as a veterinary assistant. She was promoted to surgery captain in March 2013, and in 2018 she became the director of Pet Nurses. She passed the VTNE in 2022. In 2017, Nemacolin presented her with the Employee of the Year Award. Caitlin currently lives in PA with her husband and her children. She enjoys working with her team in the adventurous atmosphere the veterinary hospital provides. On her time off, she loves picnics, campfires, growing orchids and maintaining her fish tank. Caitlin’s most memorable job duty was performing a routine dental cleaning on a cougar. Her most interesting adventure is being the first to jump off a 108-story building with her teammates in Las Vegas.
Katie Diamond, CVT, CCRP
Katie joined Woodlands Animal Care Center in January 2011. She accepted her Veterinary Science degree from Fairmont State and received her board certification in August 2011. In 2015 she completed the Canine Rehabilitative Certification program through the University of Tennessee. Katie lives in Maryland with her 2sons, her daughter, a German Shepherd and a Great Dane.
Kayla Herring
Kayla graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and minor in nursing/medical sciences in 2012. She continued working in the medical field until 2016 when her dog, Zoey, was diagnosed with lymphoma and inspired her to go back to school for veterinary nursing. She graduated with her degree in veterinary technology and passed her state boards in 2019. She had spent four years working in the oncology department for a large veterinary specialty and emergency hospital. Most recently, she accepted a position with Woodlands Animal Care Center which allows her to spend more time with her husband and daughter in the mountain community. In her free time, she enjoys crafting, cooking, gardening, wine tasting and spending time with her dogs Gracie and Booger, and cat Cousin Eddie.
Hailey Sitko
Hailey graduated from the Veterinary Technical Institute in June of 2023. She completed her externship at Woodlands Animal Care Center and is excited to stay on as a permanent member of the team. She is currently preparing to take her VTNE certification exam. While in school, Hailey was a NAVTA (National Association of Veterinary Technicians of America) Officer and operated as a kennel manager. She enjoyed helping in the planning of many school events. Hailey has a love for black cats and spends a great deal of her free time interacting with the four she has at home. Outside of her love for animals, Hailey also enjoys trying different types of foods.
Olivia Herring
Olivia graduated in May 2023 from Pierpont Community and Technical College with an associate’s degree in Applied Science and a major in Veterinary Technology. She aspires to pass her Veterinary Technician National Examination and become a Certified Veterinary Technician. Growing up and helping out on her family’s dairy farm has nurtured her love for small animals, cattle and horses. In her free time, Olivia likes to bake, spend time with her family and friends, and relax at home with her dog, Jake.
Rachel Sekura
After earning her degree in paralegal studies and criminal justice, Rachel stepped away from practicing law to raise her two boys. During that time, she has run several of her own businesses and developed a passion for rescuing Doberman Pinschers. In her spare time, she values spending time with her family and friends. Her hobbies include traveling, concerts, and motorsports.
